Manipur: Heavy Exchange of Fire Between Security Forces and Armed Militants in border town Moreh

Northeast Desk, 8th January: Heavy firing was reported today in the border town of Moreh between security forces and armed militants, resuming after a brief pause from the firing that occurred last night. The exchange of gunfire took place in Ward No 8 of Moreh as security forces were patrolling the area. Intense gunfire was reported between the security forces and armed militants from wards No 7 and 9.

Yesterday, militants attacked the barracks of security forces in Moreh using bombs, leading to prolonged gunfire. Today morning, firing resumed in Ward No 8. Although the firing has stopped some time ago, there are reports of intermittent gunfire in Moreh between security forces and militants.

Moreh has witnessed a series of firing incidents between security forces and armed militants. On January 2, gunmen targeted vehicles carrying police commandos with RPG near the Myanmar border. Two incidents of firing were reported in Moreh on December 30 and January 1, resulting in injuries to five police personnel. Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed suspicion of foreign involvement, possibly from the Myanmar side, specifically mentioning the Kuki National Army (KNA-B) as potential participants in the attacks.
