
Manipur High Court Marks Twelve Years with Grand Celebration and Infrastructure Boost
Imphal: Imphal witnessed a significant gathering as the High Court of Manipur celebrated its duodecennial anniversary today, March 23rd, with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla leading the commemoration of its twelve years of service.
The event drew a distinguished audience including Justice B.R. Gavai, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court of India and Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), alongside Supreme Court Justices Vikram Nath, M.M. Sundresh, K.V. Viswanathan, and N. Kotiswar Singh. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law & Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, Justice D. Krishnakumar, and High Court Judges Justice A. Bimol Singh, Justice A. Guneshwar Sharma, and Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu, were also present along with representatives from the Advocate General, Bar Council, Bar Association, and senior state officials.
Governor Bhalla initiated the day by laying the foundation stone for the new District & Sessions Court building in Churachandpur, signalling a significant expansion of judicial infrastructure. He also announced the creation of new positions within the Chief Justice Secretariat, aimed at bolstering the administrative efficiency of the High Court.
In his address, Governor Bhalla reflected on Manipur’s historical judicial systems, referencing the ancient Courts of Kutchu and Pacha, and the historically significant Cheirap Court in Imphal. He also highlighted the Manipur State Durbar’s role in the pre-independence era, which exercised wide judicial powers.
The Governor emphasized that the anniversary represented more than just a passing milestone; it was a celebration of the High Court’s commitment to justice, fairness, and equality. He extended his congratulations to the Chief Justice and all the judges for their unwavering dedication to upholding the rule of law within the state.
During the celebration, the visiting Supreme Court Justices and the Union Minister of State for Law & Justice jointly inaugurated several key judicial infrastructure projects and laid the foundation stones for future projects designed to enhance the judicial system in Manipur.
Governor Bhalla acknowledged the presence of the Supreme Court Justices and the Union Law Minister as a demonstration of the nation’s commitment to the judicial development of Manipur. He expressed his confidence that the High Court would continue to deliver prompt and equitable justice, serving as an inspiration to future generations of legal professionals.
The event concluded with a vibrant cultural performance presented by artists from the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Manipur.
