Manipur: Huge cache of arms and ammunition seized, 3 held
Guwahati: Three persons were arrested including a member of the banned United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Sunday.
The arrested ULNF militant has been identified as Prafullo Singh aged around 43 and the other two arrested persons have been identified as Laitonjam Kumar Singh and Wahengbam Tompok of Huikap Mayai Leikai of Manipur.
The incident took place during a search operation at Huikap Awang Leikai of the district where the cache was found hidden beneath a cowshed belonging to UNLF rebel Prafullo Singh.
According to reports, the weapons belonged to the banned UNLF.
However, the recovered weapons include 13 AK-56 rifles, an AK-81 and an AK-86 rifle, two M-16 series assault rifles, an RPG launcher along with a live shell, 200 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition, and 10 rounds of 5.5 live ammunition.
It may be noted that the other two arrested persons helped Prafullo in concealing the weapons and ammo.
The Manipur Chief Minister, N.Biren Singh announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh along with commendation to the team who launched the operation.
