Manipur: Human chain formed in Imphal Valley, Demanding Peace

Northeast Desk, 15th February: Citizens of Manipur’s Imphal valley gathered in a human chain protest, organized under the banner of the People Alliance for Peace and Progress, to decry the prolonged state of unrest prevailing in the region. The demonstrators voiced their grievances over the failure to restore peace in the state, holding play-cards with messages demanding the abrogation of the suspension of operation, condemning narco-terrorism, and calling for peace in Manipur.

President of People Alliance for Peace and Progress, Mayanglambam Bobby Singh, highlighted the enduring crisis in the state for more than nine months, expressing concern over the continuation of violence in many foothill areas. He emphasized that attacks on Meitei by miscreants are akin to attacking the entirety of India.

One of the protestors, RK Bijyalakshmi, stressed the need for the abrogation of the Suspension of Operation (SoO), citing alleged breaches of terms and conditions as a main reason for the current conflict. She urged the government to take decisive action to safeguard the future generation and bring peace to the region.

Additionally, protestors expressed dissatisfaction with the role of certain Assam Rifles regiments, alleging bias and partiality. They called for unbiased central forces in the state and condemned the lack of intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in addressing the ongoing crisis.

Asem Nirmala emphasized the urgent need for an amicable solution to the ongoing crisis and criticized the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the absence of Home Minister Amit Shah in the conflict-ridden state of Manipur.
