Manipur: Ibobi Singh Calls for PM Modi’s Intervention, Warns of Mass Resignations
Imphal: Former Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on Saturday issued a stern warning to the state and central governments, demanding urgent intervention to quell the escalating violence and deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Addressing a press conference, Singh painted a grim picture of the situation, highlighting the unprecedented levels of violence that has claimed innocent lives, including women and children. He strongly condemned the failure of both the state and central governments to address the crisis effectively.
“The state is in a state of turmoil. We have never witnessed such levels of violence before. This is a complete failure of governance,” Singh asserted.
Expressing deep concern over the ongoing crisis, Singh urged Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to seek an immediate appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive solution and warned that if the central government continues to ignore the state’s plight, drastic measures, including mass resignations by both ruling and opposition MLAs, may be inevitable.
“We have been demanding a meeting with the Prime Minister for months. If our pleas continue to be ignored, we will have no choice but to take decisive action,” Singh said.
While acknowledging the possibility of resigning as a last resort to bring about peace, Singh clarified that such a step would only be taken if it proves to be the only viable solution. He emphasized the importance of addressing the crisis through constitutional means and expressed opposition to the imposition of President’s Rule.
Singh laid the blame squarely on the shoulders of the state government, accusing it of failing to control the situation. He urged all political stakeholders to work together to find a lasting solution and restore peace to the state.
