The incident occurred following the interception of snatched vehicles and the apprehension of individuals involved in vehicle snatching. IGP Kabib K described the attack on police officers conducting their lawful duties as unfortunate and condemnable.

Providing details of the incident, he mentioned that on February 27, information was received about the theft or snatching of two Ambassador cars by unknown miscreants from a government oil depot located at North AOC. Subsequently, officers Moirangthem Amit Singh and P Achouba, along with other teams, conducted a search operation, intercepted two vehicles suspected to be stolen, and apprehended an individual involved in the crime. A FIR case was registered, and investigations are ongoing.

IGP Kabib K further explained that in connection with the above incident, targeted attacks were allegedly carried out on the officers involved, and the house and properties of Moirangthem Amit were vandalized. The additional SP was reportedly abducted, beaten, and later released after timely intervention by the department.

He expressed concern over various narratives circulating on different platforms, including social media, leading to the character assassination of the affected officers and the police department as a whole.

Emphasizing the efforts of the police department in maintaining law and order, IGP Kabib K appealed to the general public for cooperation with the police department.

He also highlighted the implications of targeting the Manipur Police, stating that calling in the army and other central forces would further distress the public. He urged understanding of the efforts put in by the state police to uphold law and order.
