Manipur: Imphal’s Raj Medicity Hospital Faces Challenges Amidst Heavy Rainfall
Northeast Desk, 30th May: Raj Medicity hospital in Imphal is currently encountering significant hurdles in delivering healthcare services as its ground floor has been inundated due to heavy rainfall in the state. To mitigate the situation, ailing patients are being relocated to alternative healthcare facilities, including RIMS, JNIMS, and several other hospitals.
The rescue operation at Raj Medicity was initiated on the evening of May 29, with support from Arambai Tengol, State Forces, and the State Disaster Response Force team. Other prominent areas affected by the flooding include Khwairamband Ima Market, Hotel Classic Grande, DM College campus, and the Manipur Press Club.
Despite a reduction in rainfall intensity compared to May 28, several districts in the state continued to experience significant precipitation until 3 pm on May 29. According to data from the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur, rainfall recorded in various districts ranged from 6 mm in Kakching district to 37.6 mm in Tamenglong district. Bishnupur district received 32.2 mm, while Imphal West and Imphal East districts recorded 25.2 mm and 17.2 mm, respectively.
The previous day, May 28, witnessed even more intense rainfall, with substantial amounts recorded until 6 pm by the Directorate of Environment. Bishnupur district received 116.2 mm, Churachandpur district 69.2 mm, Imphal East district 86.8 mm, Imphal West district 106.2 mm, Kakching district 63 mm, Noney district 107.6 mm, Tamenglong district 157 mm, and Ukhrul district 142 mm.
As the state grapples with the aftermath of incessant rains, authorities are diligently working to ensure the safety and well-being of residents, especially those affected by the flooding.
