Manipur: Kakching District Installs Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine at School Under ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ Scheme

Kakching, Manipur — In a proactive move to promote menstrual hygiene and empower young girls, the District Administration of Kakching has installed a free sanitary napkin vending machine and incinerator at Kakching Higher Secondary School under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.

This step, aimed at ensuring better access to hygiene products and fostering awareness among girl students, was carried out with the support of the District Protection Officer (DPO), ICDS Cell, and Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Kakching.

Officials stressed that menstrual hygiene management (MHM) is a vital focus of the BBBP scheme, which was launched in 2015 to address gender disparities and improve the welfare of the girl child.

In addition to the machine installation, students and teachers received notebooks and posters containing key information on the Women Helpline (181) and Child Helpline (1098), reinforcing support mechanisms for those in need.

A similar awareness drive was held at Wabagai Higher Secondary School, where students were sensitised about the importance of hygiene and access to emergency support services.

The initiative marks a significant stride in creating safe, informed, and supportive educational spaces for adolescent girls in the region.
