Manipur: Kangpokpi Stages Impressive Civil Defence Mock Drill, Sending Strong Message of Preparedness

Imphal: In a powerful demonstration of readiness, the Kangpokpi District Administration orchestrated a comprehensive Civil Defence Mock Drill today under the banner of Operation Abhiyas, underscoring a firm dedication to the safety and security of its citizens in the face of potential emergencies.

The meticulously planned operation unfolded at Elite Higher Secondary School, commencing precisely at 9:00 AM with the piercing wail of air raid sirens and urgent emergency calls. What followed was a compelling enactment of Kangpokpi’s coordinated response to a hostile attack or a large-scale disaster scenario.

The drill encompassed vital emergency procedures, including intricate search-and-rescue operations, swift casualty evacuation protocols, simulated blackouts to test resilience, the rapid deployment of fire and emergency services, the immediate establishment of temporary medical facilities, and the systematic relocation of civilian populations to designated safe havens. The exercise witnessed the seamless mobilization of over 500 participants, comprising dedicated security personnel, healthcare professionals, disciplined NCC cadets, and committed local volunteers, in a display that exemplified effective crisis management.

Key district officials, including the Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, and the Superintendent of Police Manoj Prabhakar, IPS, were present at the site, diligently observing the proceedings and subsequently addressing members of the press.

“The resounding success of today’s mock drill underscores Kangpokpi’s unwavering collective resolve. Our preparedness is not merely theoretical; it is a tangible reality on the ground,” affirmed DC Mahesh Chaudhari. He lauded the exemplary coordination among various civil departments, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Fire Services, dedicated medical teams, and the proactive involvement of the general public. “Being prepared is paramount to saving lives. This exercise is not just a procedural drill; it is our solemn commitment to the people of Kangpokpi.”

SP Manoj Prabhakar echoed this sentiment, stating, “Operation Abhiyas serves as a crucial rehearsal for resilience. Our objective is to ensure that our citizens remain calm, informed, and confident in the knowledge that help will always arrive—promptly and efficiently.”

Beyond the technical execution, the mock drill served as a significant community engagement initiative. Students, local villagers, and civilian observers were visibly moved by the demonstration, with many expressing a heightened sense of security and civic responsibility following the exercise.

The event was also graced by the presence of senior administrative officials, including Shokhonam Baite, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi, Hemant Kumar, IAS, Sub-Divisional Officer T-Waichong, and Doujapao Haokip, MCS, Chief Executive Officer of the Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council (SH-ADC), along with esteemed officials from the 112 BN CRPF, local police authorities, various district departments, and respected community leaders.

Crucially, the district administration had proactively issued a public advisory prior to the drill, urging residents to refrain from panic, thereby ensuring the smooth and orderly conduct of the exercise without any undue confusion.

Through Operation Abhiyas, Kangpokpi has established a noteworthy benchmark in civil defence preparedness, transforming it from a mere administrative function into a dynamic people’s movement dedicated to safety and resilience.
