Manipur: KCP (Noyon) Operatives Nabbed in Imphal East Extortion Crackdown

Imphal – Manipur Police have apprehended two individuals believed to be active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Noyon) faction in a recent intelligence-led operation. The arrests took place on Sunday in the Imphal East District, signaling an ongoing push by authorities to quell extortion rackets plaguing the region.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shagolshem Lemba Meitei, aged 43, and Shagolshem Romen Meitei, aged 40. Both hail from the Loushangkhong Makha Leikai area. Their detention occurred near the Forest office situated at Sawombung Gate, a location that suggests a potentially strategic point within their alleged activities.

During the operation, law enforcement officials successfully recovered several items from the suspects’ possession. These included a vehicle, which may have been used in their alleged operations, along with two mobile phones and two wallets. These seized items are likely to be examined further as part of the ongoing investigation into the group’s activities and network.

Police sources indicate that the primary alleged involvement of the arrested men centered around the collection of funds for the KCP (Noyon) outfit through extortion. This revelation underscores the financial motivations driving the activities of such underground organizations and the disruption caused to local communities through these illegal demands.

The successful apprehension of these alleged KCP (Noyon) members reflects the intensified efforts of the Manipur Police to tackle the pervasive issue of extortion across the state. Authorities have stated that extensive combing and search operations are currently underway. These proactive measures aim to identify and apprehend other individuals who may be involved in similar criminal activities, sending a clear message against such unlawful practices.
