Manipur: Kuki Community Demonstrates Compassion in Rescuing Meitei Driver Amidst Tense Situation

Northeast Desk, Jan 4th: In a display of humanity amidst a tense situation, a group of Kuki elders and youths stepped forward to help rescue Meitei driver Konthoujam Dingku from a potentially unsafe area.

The incident unfolded when Dingku mistakenly drove into T Lailoiphai, a Kuki village, while transporting BSF personnel to their headquarters at Serou Practical High School in Kakching. A heated argument ensued between the BSF personnel and the Kuki volunteers, leading to Dingku being blindfolded and taken to a discreet location by the Kuki group.

Assam Rifles and BSF troops later rescued Dingku from the situation. However, in the aftermath, locals of Lailoiphai village expressed their discontent by destroying some household properties of their village chief, holding him accountable for permitting the rescue operation.

The convoy, which had mistakenly taken the wrong route and entered T Lailoiphai village, faced interception by a Kuki mob that began verifying the drivers. While all other drivers, who were Muslims, were unharmed, Dingku found himself at the center of an argument between the mob and BSF personnel.

An audio recording of Dingku conversing with the vehicle owner revealed that he was blindfolded and taken to a hill by some youth and village elders. Fortunately, he was later rescued by the joint efforts of Assam Rifles and BSF. Subsequently, Dingku and the vehicle were handed over to Bishnupur police by Sangaikot police.
