Manipur: Kuki Community expresses dismay over repeated attacks in New Keithelmanbi Area

Northeast Desk, 9th October: The Kuki lnpi Moltam Lhang (KIML) in the New Keithelmanbi Area has voiced their deep concern regarding the alleged series of terror attacks on Kuki Villages for the fifth time. These attacks are said to have been led by armed individuals disguised in uniforms resembling those of central and state forces, wielding sophisticated weaponry.

“The fifth attack on the Kukis at New Keithelmanbi Kuki Area by the terrorists took place this morning at around 4:20 am when the armed militants in camouflage and police uniforms started firing live bullets towards Sinam Khaithong Kuki Village,” stated the press release by Kuki lnpi Moltam Lhang on October 8.

The Kuki lnpi Moltam Lhang further asserted that on October 4, 2023, armed radicals launched an attack on New Keithelmanbi village, which was effectively repelled by the Central security forces deployed in the area. During this incident, the house of Kuki Assam Rifles personnel was set on fire by the armed militants when they targeted Sinam Khaithong village on the morning of October 5, 2023.

According to the tribal body, at least four houses belonging to residents of L. Jangnomphai village were also set ablaze on the evening of October 5, 2023, and the local church suffered partial damage.

Despite the heavy presence of Central security forces in the region, the alleged attacks by Meiteis against the Kukis, under the guise of state forces, raise concerns about governance and the safety of the Kuki community.

The KIML strongly condemned state media houses for their perceived biased reporting and misrepresentation of facts related to these incidents. They called for a just and lasting solution to address the political demands of the Kuki community, emphasizing the urgency of resolving these issues.

This series of attacks and the ongoing tensions underscore the need for a comprehensive resolution to address the concerns and safety of the Kuki people in the New Keithelmanbi Area.
