Manipur: Kuki Militants Deploy Long-Range Rockets in Bishnupur, One Civilian Killed

Northeast Desk, 7th September: Kuki militants launched long-range rocket attacks in Bishnupur district today, resulting in the death of a 78-year-old civilian and injuries to six others, according to a late-night release by Manipur Police.

The deceased, identified as RK Rabei, a senior citizen from Moirang Phiwangbam Leikai, was killed when the rockets targeted two civilian areas in the district. The injured victims were from Moirang Khoiru Leikai, also in Bishnupur. The police confirmed that the situation in the state remains tense but under control.

Security forces, including police teams and additional personnel, have been dispatched to conduct combing operations in the hill ranges near the attack sites. Three bunkers belonging to militants in Churachandpur district—two in Mualsang village and one in Laika Mualsau village—were destroyed in the operation.

Bishnupur District Police, led by senior officers, engaged in a fierce gunfight with suspected militants after being fired upon during the operation. A military helicopter has been deployed for aerial patrols to ensure continuous monitoring of the volatile region.

Top police officials, including IGP and DIGP, are on the ground supervising security efforts. High-level meetings are ongoing to address the escalating tensions and ensure law and order. Authorities are prepared to respond to any emerging threats.

Meanwhile, police have ensured the safe movement of essential goods along National Highways 37 and 2, with strict security measures in place at vulnerable locations. A security convoy is being provided along sensitive routes to safeguard vehicle movements.
