Manipur Landslide: With 2 More Bodies, Assam’s Death Toll Rises to 11

Guwahati: The bodies of two more construction workers from Assam were found among the debris at the landslide site in Manipur on Tuesday.

According to reports, the deceased belong from Lahorighat in the Morigaon district of Assam.

They are believed to be Jonti Bordoloi and Ramu Phukan, though their identities are yet to be verified.

With this, there are now 11 individuals from Assam who have lost their lives in the terrible landslides in Manipur’s Tupul.

At least 12 more people are still missing in the wake of the sad occurrence, officials informed on Monday.

The state government of Manipur has developed a list of 26 people who were present at the Tupul railway yard building site in the Noney district of Manipur on June 29, when the landslide took place.

As many as 42 people have been confirmed to have lost their lives in the tragic incident, while 20 more are still missing. So far, 18 people have been rescued alive from the site.

Assam’s water resources minister Pijush Hazarika, who visited the spot of the tragedy, told reporters, “We have the identities of 26 people from the state who were there. One of them worked for a construction company, while the other two were employees of the Army.”

The cabinet minister has set up camp in Manipur to supervise search and rescue efforts since Saturday.
