Manipur Launches Sweeping Crackdown on Illegal Immigrants

IMPHAL: In a decisive move to address the escalating concerns surrounding undocumented foreign nationals, the Manipur Police has initiated a comprehensive, state-wide crackdown, reinforced by stringent new directives and heightened enforcement measures. This intensified drive aims to identify, restrict the movement of, and ultimately deport illegal immigrants, including those from Bangladesh, Myanmar (Rohingya), and Pakistan, who have reportedly been residing in the state without valid documentation.

The Police Headquarters has disseminated revised instructions to all District Superintendents of Police, outlining precise protocols for the detection and verification of these individuals. To ensure uniformity and coordination across all districts, a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has also been circulated, providing clear guidelines for the personnel on the ground. This systematic approach is expected to streamline efforts and lead to more effective results in curbing illegal residency within the state’s borders.

Adding impetus to this drive, Special Task Forces (STFs) have been established within every district police unit. These dedicated teams are specifically mandated to identify and initiate legal action against individuals found to be residing in Manipur without proper documentation. The formation of these specialised units underscores the seriousness with which the authorities are approaching the issue.

Senior police officials are maintaining a close watch on the implementation of these measures, conducting regular reviews to assess their efficacy and ensure strict adherence to the new directives. The state government remains committed to safeguarding its demographic integrity and security amidst the challenges posed by illegal immigration.
