Manipur Leaders Pay Tribute to Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and State Congress President Keisham Meghachandra joined the nation in mourning the death of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday night at AIIMS Delhi.

The veteran leader, remembered as a visionary statesman, was brought to the emergency department in critical condition before succumbing to age-related ailments.

Expressing his condolences on his official X handle, Chief Minister Biren Singh wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India. He was a visionary leader, and his dedication to the nation has left an indelible mark on our country.” The Chief Minister extended his heartfelt sympathies to Singh’s family and loved ones, adding, “May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

State Congress President Keisham Meghachandra also paid tribute, reflecting on Singh’s contributions to the state and the nation. “I am lost in profound grief with deep agony and pain to hear his passing away,” Meghachandra posted on X. He acknowledged Singh’s role in shaping modern Manipur during his tenure as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, adding, “I, on behalf of the people of Manipur, express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Manmohan for his immense contributions.”

Dr Singh is survived by his wife, Gurcharan Kaur, and three daughters. Tributes have poured in from across the political spectrum, highlighting the profound respect and admiration for his leadership, scholarship, and lasting impact on India’s political and economic landscape. His passing marks the end of an era, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire leaders and citizens alike.
