Manipur Lifts Mobile Internet Ban, Restores Services Across the State

Northeast Desk, 16th September: The Manipur government has lifted the temporary suspension of mobile internet services across the state, effective immediately. This decision follows a comprehensive review of the prevailing law and order situation.

According to the government order, the suspension, which was initially imposed on September 10 and extended until September 20, 2024, was put in place as a preventive measure to maintain public safety. The order affects all forms of internet and mobile data services, including Lease Lines, VSATS, Broadbands, and VPN services.

The Home Department of Manipur announced the lifting of the ban in a detailed order, stating: “The State Government has reviewed the prevailing law and order situation and decided to lift any form of temporary internet suspension in the State of Manipur which was in good faith imposed as preventive measure in public interest.”

The order further emphasized that all mobile service providers must comply with the directive and resume normal internet services to the public.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also addressed the development via a post on X, urging residents to use the restored internet services responsibly. Singh emphasized the importance of avoiding the spread of inflammatory content that could potentially disrupt peace and harmony in the state.

The decision to lift the ban aims to restore normalcy and facilitate better communication for residents and businesses throughout Manipur.
