Manipur: Lightning Strike During Thunderstorm Injures Five
Northeast Desk, 21st September: In a harrowing incident near Loktak Lake in Manipur, a lightning strike during a thunderstorm left four farmers and an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) injured.
The incident unfolded while the farmers were diligently working in a paddy field situated in the vicinity of Keimang Loukon, nestled between the villages of Keirenphabi and Khuga in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.
Reports indicate that one of the farmers suffered severe injuries due to the lightning strike, prompting swift action. All the injured individuals were swiftly transported to the Moirang Health Community Centre for immediate medical attention.
Adding to the unfortunate turn of events, an IDP seeking refuge at a nearby relief camp in Moirang was also injured. The IDP had accompanied the four farmers to the nearby paddy field when the lightning struck.
This incident draws attention to the ongoing challenges faced by over 60,000 displaced persons who have sought shelter in various relief camps across the state. Their displacement stems from ethnic violence that erupted earlier this year, further highlighting the vulnerability of those affected by such incidents.
