Manipur Logs First COVID-19 Case in Current Wave

Imphal: Manipur has reported its first COVID-19 case in the ongoing wave of coronavirus infections, with a 23-year-old woman from Bishnupur district testing positive. The development has prompted health authorities to urge heightened vigilance across the state.

Dr. Chambo Gonmei, Director of Manipur Health Services, informed reporters that the woman, who had developed symptoms consistent with COVID-19, underwent testing at a private clinic in Imphal. Her samples, collected on June 5, returned positive results on Monday, confirming the presence of the virus.

Health officials are currently working to ascertain the patient’s travel and contact history to understand the source and potential spread of the infection. Dr. Gonmei emphasised the importance of remaining alert, especially given the rising trend of COVID-19 cases in various other parts of the country.
