Manipur: Mass Rally in Churachandpur Denounces Atrocities on Kuki-Zo Tribals, Urges CBI Probe

Northeast Desk, 15th November: The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) orchestrated a “Mass Rally Against Atrocities on Kuki-Zo Tribals” in Churachandpur district, drawing tens of thousands of protesters from across the district. Marching from various locations to Tuibuong Peace Ground, the demonstrators voiced their grievances against the state government and called for investigations into atrocities against Kuki-Zo tribals by the Meitei community.

The rally aimed to condemn the brutal murders of innocent Kuki-Zo civilians by mobs and expressed concern over the selective handling of cases by police and investigating agencies, favoring the Meitei community. The protesters raised their voices against the swift action on cases blamed on Kuki-Zo tribals while demanding justice for cases involving tribal victims, which either go unaddressed or face indefinite delays.

The ITLF and the entire Kuki-Zo community urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to promptly investigate and fast-track several cases. They highlighted that additional innocent Kuki-Zo civilians had fallen victim to violence based on their ethnicity, emphasizing the urgent need for the central government to recognize the situation as ethnic cleansing perpetrated by the majority against minorities.
