Manipur: Meira Paibis Rally Against Arrest of Arambai Tenggol Leader

Imphal: Meira Paibis from various parts of Manipur have staged protests against the First Information Report (FIR) filed against Arambai Tenggol leader Korounganba Khuman. They have urged the authorities to refrain from arresting him on various charges.

A joint press conference held by Meira Paibi groups under Heingang Constituency in Imphal East district condemned the government’s move. They asserted that Meetei village volunteers are neither insurgents nor terrorists.

A displaced woman from Kangpokpi alleged that the violence in Manipur was initiated by armed Kuki groups who attacked Meetei civilians, including infants, women, and elderly people.

She further stated, “As the government failed to protect the lives and property of people, Arambai Tenggol took the responsibility of defending Meetei villages from the Kuki aggression.”

The Meira Paibis strongly opposed the charges levied by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against Korounganba Khuman, deeming them unjustified. They demanded the government to withdraw its actions.

The NIA is currently investigating two cases of attacks on police and arms loot in Manipur, allegedly involving Korounganba Khuman.
