Manipur: Missing Man Found Dead with Bullet Injuries in Imphal East

Northeast Desk, 12th February: A man who had been missing since February 7 was discovered dead with bullet wounds in the adjoining areas of Imphal East and Kangpokpi on Sunday morning.

The missing individual, identified as Ningthoujam Manisana (32) from Sangaithel Maning Leikai, prompted a massive search operation after his family filed a missing report at Thoubal Dam Police Station. Despite efforts, his lifeless body was found at Molham Karong Ching under Thoubal Dam Police Station with evident bullet injuries.

The deceased’s body was transferred to the morgue of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) on the same day. However, family members and locals opted not to claim the body, leading to the formation of a Joint Action Committee following a public meeting held immediately.

The committee, in its resolution, vowed not to relent until the state government fulfills their demands outlined during the public gathering. These demands include the arrest of culprits within 48 hours, provision of ex-gratia to the bereaved family, and suitable government assistance to the deceased’s wife.

Furthermore, the committee resolved to escalate their agitation alongside the public and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) should the state government fail to address their demands promptly.

According to reports, Manisana went missing while attempting to defend a village from an alleged attack by armed groups, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and subsequent demise.
