Northeast Desk, 10th January: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President, K Meghachandra, expressed disappointment after Chief Minister N Biren Singh denied permission to hold the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra’ at Hatta Kangjeibung in Imphal East district, citing law and order concerns.

In response to the government’s decision, Meghachandra stated that the venue has been shifted to a private location at Khongjom in the Thoubal district. He criticized the denial, calling it a “murder of democracy” and a violation of people’s and political rights.

The yatra, inaugurated by Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharghe, aims to cover 14 states and 85 districts through foot marches and bus rides.

On January 10, the Manipur government declined ground permission for the yatra in Imphal.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal emphasized the importance of starting the yatra from Manipur and announced plans to initiate it from an alternative location within the state.
