Manipur MLA Declares Law and Order Improvement, Anticipates New Government Formation Amidst Ongoing Peace Talks

Imphal: In a recent address to reporters in the Kakching district, Manipur BJP MLA T Robindro asserted a significant improvement in the state’s law and order situation. He expressed optimism regarding the swift formation of a new government, signaling a potential shift in the region’s political landscape.

Robindro further disclosed that crucial peace talks have commenced between Meitei and Kuki civil groups, a development he views as a pivotal step towards restoring harmony. He voiced his belief that dialogues among Meitei and Kuki legislators are imminent, intended to bolster the ongoing peace initiatives. “We believe that talks between Meitei and Kuki legislators will happen in the near future to assist in bringing peace. I have faith that a new government will be formed soon,” Robindro stated.

Addressing concerns about internal divisions within the BJP, the Thanga constituency legislator clarified, “There is no inability to choose a leader or division among us (BJP legislators). We all are united. We will not allow division of Manipur and all will stand united for the state.” His statement aimed to dispel any notions of disunity within the party ranks.

The MLA’s comments come against the backdrop of a prolonged period of ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities, which has tragically resulted in over 260 fatalities since May 2023. The unrest stemmed from a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ protesting a Manipur High Court order concerning the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.

The political scenario in Manipur remains fluid following the imposition of President’s rule on February 13, subsequent to the resignation of then Chief Minister N Biren Singh on February 9. The state assembly, elected until 2027, is currently under suspended animation.
