Manipur MLA Raises Alarm Over Security Concerns Following Kuki Militants’ Entry Claim

Northeast Desk, 25th September: Manipur Congress MLA Th Lokeshwar expressed serious concerns on Wednesday regarding security advisor Kuldiep Singh’s recent assertion that 900 Kuki militants have infiltrated the state. Lokeshwar stated that this claim has instilled panic among residents in the outlying villages of the Imphal valley, urging the government to provide clarity on the situation and the actions being taken to address the potential threat.

During his visit to the Khundrakpam constituency, Lokeshwar addressed the media, stating, “Singh’s claim has created unrest in peripheral areas of Imphal valley. He should clarify the grounds for his assertions and what measures are in place to counter the militants’ entry. Villagers should not be left to live in fear.” He emphasized the importance of government intervention, insisting that the responsibility for safeguarding these communities rests with the authorities, not the villagers themselves.

The security advisor had previously informed that security forces are on high alert following reports of the militants’ entry, which is believed to be part of a plan to target peripheral villages. Singh indicated that potential attacks could occur around September 28, heightening the urgency of the situation.

In response to the threat, Singh assured that intelligence has been shared among various security agencies, and proactive measures are being communicated to remote areas to thwart any militant preparations. He also mentioned that the hill districts of Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Ukhrul, Kamjong, and Pherzawl have been placed on high alert to counter any potential attacks.

Lokeshwar’s call for prompt action reflects growing concern among local leaders about the safety and security of their constituents in the face of rising tensions.
