Manipur MLAs Given 24-Hour Ultimatum Amidst Escalating Violence
Imphal: Civil society organizations (CSOs) in Manipur have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the state’s 60 MLAs, demanding a clear stance on the ongoing ethnic clashes. The call comes after a joint emergency meeting held yesterday, where concerns were raised over the alleged role of certain MLAs in fueling the violence.
Th Manihar, president of the Federation of Civil Society Organizations (FOCS), accused 10 MLAs representing Kuki-Zo-Hmar communities of inciting violence against the Meitei community. He labeled their actions as a “war of genocide” and urged the government to declare them terrorists.
The CSOs have also demanded the deportation of illegal Chin Kuki immigrants through the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC). They expressed deep disappointment over the government’s handling of the recent killings of six women and children in Jiribam, criticizing the lack of timely intervention to rescue the victims.
The rising tensions have led to widespread protests and vandalism across the state. As the situation remains volatile, the CSOs have called for immediate action from both the central and state governments to restore peace and ensure justice for the victims.
