Manipur: Mortal remains of Ngangom Nevy brought from JNIMS mortuary for last rites
Northeast Desk, 13th February: The decomposed body of Ngangom Nevy, who was brutally murdered, has been claimed by his family from the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal (JNIMS) morgue. The body was taken from the morgue this afternoon after an understanding was reached between the government and the Joint Action Committee formed in connection with Nevy’s killing.
Addressing the media at the morgue’s campus, the convenor of JAC, Chanthoi, outlined their demands, including the removal of armed miscreants allegedly belonging to the Kuki community from the state, replacing the 37th Assam Rifles, and providing suitable jobs to Nevy’s family. Chanthoi condemned the brutality of the Kuki Nacro terrorists and urged the government to take action against them.
Furthermore, Chanthoi questioned the Assam Rifles’ role in the incident, highlighting that the murder occurred just a few meters away from the 37 Assam Rifles gate. As the state government has assured to address their demands, the JAC claimed Nevy’s body for the last rites, which are scheduled to be performed today.
Chanthoi emphasized the brutality of the armed miscreants in Nevy’s murder and criticized the Assam Rifles for their alleged ignorance or ineffectiveness in preventing such incidents. Ngangom Nevy had been missing since May 28 and was recently found as a decomposed body at Sokom Village under Chandel district on January 31. The body has been kept at the mortuary of JNIMS, and its retrieval follows the emergence of a beheading video of Nevy on social media.
