Manipur Mourns: 13 Slain Victims Honored in Mass Funeral Ceremony
Northeast Desk, 6th December: The last rites for the 13 people killed in the suspected Kuki militant attack at Leithao Village in Tengnoupal district were solemnly performed at Torongthel in Andro constituency under Imphal East district.
The mass cremation took place during the early hours of the morning, commencing at around 3:30 am.
The mortal remains of the 13 victims were brought to the mass cremation site following post-mortem procedures at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), with their arrival at around 6:30 pm the previous day.
Massive processions, marked by the participation of grieving individuals, carried the mortal remains to Andro, located approximately 30 km from Imphal.
The journey, while relatively short in distance, extended in time due to the presence of numerous well-wishers along the roadside, paying floral tributes to the departed souls. The procession reached the burial site at around 2:30 am.
Upon arrival, the gathered crowd at the cremation site accorded the deceased with great honor. Fitting tributes were paid, and the final rites were performed, culminating in the burial of the bodies at around 3:30 am. The entire process unfolded amidst an atmosphere of reverence and mourning as the community came together to bid farewell to those lost in the tragic incident.
