Manipur Nabs Seven Militants, Uncovers Major Arms Cache in Coordinated Operations

Imphal: Security forces in Manipur achieved significant successes on July 21, conducting a series of well-coordinated anti-insurgency operations across the state. These decisive actions led to the apprehension of seven active militants and the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons, underscoring the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.

A major breakthrough occurred near the Indo-Myanmar border, where three active cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) were nabbed close to Border Pillar 79 in Pangal Basti, falling under the Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district. Those arrested were identified as Khumanthem Umakanta Singh alias Chinglai, 36, originally from Mongbung in Jiribam district; Pukhrambam Naoton Singh alias Tomthin, 22, from Ningthoukhong Mayai Leikei in Bishnupur district; and Soibam Bargil Meitei alias Phirefpa, 23, hailing from Irom Meijrao in Imphal West district.

In a separate, intelligence-driven operation, four cadres belonging to the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) were successfully apprehended from the Koirengei Chingol Leikai area, under the jurisdiction of Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district. The arrested UPPK militants were identified as Nishan Ngangbam alias Tamngakpa, 24; Laishangbam Roshan Singh alias Yaibi, 35; Chungkham Kiran Meitei alias Lepsinba, 21; and Chandam Ratan Meitei alias Lion, 41. From these operatives, security forces recovered significant evidence, including a silver Hyundai Getz car, Indian currency amounting to Rs 9,230, one Nepalese currency note worth Rs 10, five mobile phones, five SIM cards, four Aadhaar cards, and one PAN card.

Further adding to the successes, security forces extended their operations to Kangpokpi district, undertaking comprehensive weapon recovery missions. Searches were meticulously carried out in Tingkai Khullen village and the areas surrounding Maohing and Changoubung villages. This diligent effort resulted in the significant recovery of sophisticated weaponry. The haul included INSAS rifles, .303 rifles fitted with telescopic sights, M16 rifles, MA1 assault rifles, sniper rifles, various pistols, and several locally-made rifles, alongside a considerable quantity of assorted ammunition. The comprehensive nature of these operations highlights the continued vigilance and effectiveness of the security apparatus in Manipur.
