Manipur: Narcotics Bust in Thoubal District Nets Two Arrests and Significant Drug Seizure
Thoubal– In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Manipur police apprehended two individuals in Thoubal district yesterday following the recovery of a substantial quantity of narcotic substances and unaccounted cash.
Acting on precise intelligence, law enforcement officials executed a targeted search at the dwelling of Wangmayum Barul Alam, situated in the Lilong Haoreibi locality. The operation culminated in the confiscation of a considerable cache of illicit substances.
According to police reports, the items seized from Alam’s residence included 3.9 kilograms of brown sugar, seven soap cases filled with suspected heroin powder, each weighing 12 grams, and seven bottles of codeine, each containing 100 milliliters. Consequently, Wangmayum Barul Alam was taken into custody.
Expanding their operation, security forces conducted a follow-up action at the residence of Yangkhubam Hafi, located in the Darul Uloom Makha area of the same district. This subsequent search resulted in the seizure of ₹1.14 lakh in unaccounted cash.
Authorities stated that the recovered cash is believed to be proceeds generated from the illegal sale of narcotics. Additionally, various pharmaceutical capsules were also discovered and confiscated from Hafi’s residence. While the precise monetary value of the total seized items is still under assessment, police officials confirmed that further investigation into the matter is currently in progress. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts of the state police and other security agencies in Manipur, who have intensified search operations across the region since the eruption of ethnic conflict in May 2023.
