Manipur: Northeast Frontier Railway General Manager Oversees Jiribam – Khongsang Section, Prioritizing Safety and Progress

Imphal: Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, the General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), undertook an extensive inspection of the Jiribam – Khongsang section of the Jiribam – Imphal New Line.

The inspection, which covered the 55.36 km stretch, was a crucial step in ensuring the continued safe operation of rail services within Manipur. This segment is a key component of the larger 110.625 km Jiribam – Imphal railway project, a vital initiative aimed at bolstering connectivity in the region.

The Jiribam – Khongsang section, inaugurated in September 2022, currently facilitates regular goods train services, transporting essential commodities to Khongsang. During his visit, the General Manager conducted a meticulous review of the section’s infrastructural components, including tunnels, bridges, track layouts, and signaling systems. This thorough assessment was designed to guarantee the highest standards of safety for train operations.

Shrivastava also engaged directly with safety personnel at various stations along the route. His discussions focused on identifying and addressing critical challenges, such as the need for track reinforcement, managing geological stability issues like landslides, and enhancing security measures. These interactions underscored the NFR’s commitment to proactive problem-solving and ensuring the well-being of its staff and passengers.

Looking ahead, the project’s next phases involve the commissioning of the Khongsang – Noney (18.25 km) and Noney – Imphal (37.02 km) sections. The completion of the entire Jiribam – Imphal railway line is expected to revolutionize connectivity in Manipur, fostering economic growth and driving regional development. This ambitious project is a testament to Indian Railways’ dedication to transforming the Northeastern states through extensive infrastructure development.

The Jiribam – Imphal new line is a cornerstone of the broader connectivity initiatives in the North-eastern region. Indian Railways is actively pursuing numerous new railway line projects, with the Jiribam – Imphal connectivity playing a pivotal role in this transformative endeavor. The ongoing construction of new railway lines to connect all the state capitals of the North-eastern region, under the capital connectivity projects, highlights the nation’s commitment to integrating and developing this vital area.
