Manipur: Outcry in Imphal West After Gun Attack Shakes Community

Northeast Desk, 21st May: Residents of Naoremthong in Imphal West took to the streets in a sit-in protest following an alleged gun attack on laborers in their community. The incident, which occurred on the night of May 18, has ignited outrage and fear among locals.

Organized by the Khullem Leikai Meira Club, Uripok Apunba Lup, and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup, the protest aimed to denounce the violence that unfolded within their residential area. Samom Dhurba, the general secretary of Uripok Apunba Lup, condemned the attack, urging armed individuals to refrain from inciting violence in residential neighborhoods.

Reports indicate that unidentified armed miscreants fired upon laborers, resulting in one fatality and two injuries. The tragic event has left the community deeply shaken, with concerns over safety and security escalating.

In a separate demonstration, residents protested against another alleged gun attack targeting Kakchingtabam Hotel. Orchestrated by the Kakching Lamkhai Welfare Board, the protest highlighted mounting apprehension and distress caused by such violence.

A spokesperson for the protesters demanded transparency and accountability from those responsible for the attacks. The community seeks answers and reassurance regarding the motives behind these assaults, emphasizing the urgent need for swift action and justice.
