Manipur: Outrage Erupts in Sagolband Following Midnight Attack on Orphanage

Imphal: Imphal West witnessed a wave of public dissent on Wednesday as local residents organized a sit-in demonstration to voice their strong condemnation of a recent act of violence. The protest was triggered by a disturbing incident in the Sagolband area, where unidentified armed individuals targeted a home sheltering orphaned boys with gunfire.

The demonstrators, holding aloft placards bearing messages of condemnation, vociferously chanted slogans demanding swift action from law enforcement. Their primary appeal was for the immediate apprehension and prosecution of those responsible for the brazen attack that instilled fear within the community.

According to police reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, at approximately 1:40 am. At least two unidentified miscreants reportedly discharged six rounds of ammunition at the premises of the children’s home, creating an atmosphere of terror and uncertainty.

Khaiden Ongbi Romita, the individual who manages the affected orphanage, expressed her profound distress while speaking to members of the press. She lamented the unfortunate targeting of a sanctuary meant for vulnerable children, emphasizing the unknown motives behind the violent act. With deep concern for the safety and well-being of the orphaned residents, she earnestly appealed for measures to prevent any recurrence of such alarming incidents in the future. The home, she stated, provides shelter and care for numerous orphaned children who deserve a secure and peaceful environment.
