Manipur: Peace agreement with UNLF in Imphal, CM Urges Unity and Forgiveness
Northeast Desk, 2nd December: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed gratitude during the reception ceremony for the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) following the signing of a peace agreement on November 29, 2023 which was held at Kangla, Imphal. The ceremony was attended by family members of UNLF cadres.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh acknowledged the vital role of the people of Manipur in making the peace agreement possible, emphasizing the preciousness of human lives. The peace process, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, took around three years.
Singh extended his gratitude to UNLF leaders, Central Committee, cadres, and the Manipur People’s Army (MPA) for accepting the Central government’s proposal for peace. He urged other outfits in the region to consider entering the peace process, offering to work as a facilitator.
Emphasizing unity, the Chief Minister urged people to forgive and forget, highlighting the impact of division on Manipur’s history. He encouraged residents to acknowledge the positive steps taken by the Centre, such as lifting AFSPA and implementing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Manipur.
As part of the ceremony, UNLF cadres were honored, and pigeons carrying messages of peace, hope, and development were released. The event saw the presence of Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, cabinet ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP, military officials, and other dignitaries.
