Manipur Police and Assam Rifles Nab PREPAK Cadres, Seize Weapons in Extensive Crackdown

Imphal: In a significant joint operation on December 11, 2024, the Manipur Police and the Assam Rifles apprehended three active cadres of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro) in Thoubal District.

The arrested individuals, identified as Nambram Indrajit Singh (22), Rajkumar Mohen Sana (21), and Warepam Albert Meitei alias Thoi (21), were allegedly involved in extortion activities and illegal possession of firearms.

During the operation in Thoubal Athokpam, security forces recovered one high-explosive hand grenade, five demand letters attributed to PREPAK (Pro), three mobile phones, and a Honda motorcycle. The arrests marked the beginning of an extensive crackdown on insurgent activities in Manipur.

Subsequent search operations in vulnerable hill and valley areas yielded a significant cache of weapons and explosives. In the Chandel District, security personnel recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, a 9mm pistol magazine, three locally made mortars, two live mortar bombs, and a single-barrel gun. Meanwhile, operations in the Teising area of Churachandpur District led to the seizure of firearms, including a .303 rifle, four 12-bore single-barrel guns, a 9mm pistol, a .22 rifle, a 12-bore shotgun, and assorted ammunition.

In addition to these efforts, authorities ensured the safe movement of essential supplies along National Highways 37 and 2, escorting 126 and 372 vehicles, respectively, without incident. Strict security measures, including the deployment of security convoys and checkpoints, safeguarded these routes.

A total of 106 checkpoints, or “Nakas,” were established across various districts of the state to bolster security and monitor for violations. Officials reported no detentions related to violations during these operations.

The crackdown underscores the authorities’ commitment to eradicating insurgent activities and restoring stability in the region. Security forces have pledged to maintain enhanced vigilance and continue their efforts to ensure peace across Manipur.
