Manipur Police Arrest Five in Connection with Arms Snatching Incident, Recover Cache of Weapons

Manipur Police have made significant strides in their investigation of an arms snatching case, arresting four police personnel and one civilian linked to the incident that occurred on August 27, 2024, in Imphal West District. The incident took place in Leikinthabi under Sekmai Police Station, where armed miscreants overpowered police personnel and seized three rifles and four magazines containing 80 live rounds.

The arrested individuals include Meisnam Krishnadas (57), Maibam Shanjit Singh (34), Longjam Jayenta Singh (52), and Oinam Banti Singh (30)—all police personnel—as well as Mainam Bomcha (45), a civilian. The suspects have been placed in 10 days’ police custody for further interrogation.

Following this, Manipur Police conducted a major raid on August 28, 2024, in Sekta Awang Leikai, Imphal East District, where they recovered a substantial arsenal. The recovered items include three INSAS rifles with magazines, an INSAS LMG rifle, a small-calibre rifle, two AK-56 rifles with magazines, 130 live rounds of ammunition, two mobile phones, and nine other items, including military fatigues.

The arrests and recovery highlight ongoing efforts by the Manipur Police to combat illegal arms activities and restore order in the region. Further investigations are underway to uncover more details and possible connections to larger criminal networks.
