Manipur Police Arrest Five Militants in Multiple Operations Across Districts
Imphal: Manipur police have successfully apprehended five militants from different proscribed groups following a series of operations conducted in Churachandpur and Imphal East districts.
On March 3, a 19-year-old man along with three juveniles were arrested in the Bethel area of Churachandpur town. The group, identified as members of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), was allegedly involved in extorting local businesses and smuggling drugs and weapons. Police recovered two pistols from their possession.
In a separate operation on March 4, security forces arrested Yumnam Suresh Meitei, a 28-year-old member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (MFL), from Porompat Ayangpalli Road in Imphal East. Meitei was reportedly involved in extortion activities targeting the general public, private companies, and government officials. A significant cache of items, including ten hand grenades, a tube launcher, ammunition, a two-wheeler, and several mobile phones, was seized from him.
The same day, another arrest was made in Churachandpur, where Thangsuanmuan was taken into custody. Police recovered 132 soap cases containing heroin, a mobile phone, and a four-wheeler from his possession.
In Bishnupur district, two individuals, Huidrom Romen Singh (44), an ex-cadre of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), and Huidrom Naresh Singh (32), were arrested. Police recovered a pistol with an empty magazine and two mobile phones from them.
These operations underscore the ongoing efforts by the Manipur police to curb militant activities and related criminal operations in the state.
