Manipur Police Arrest Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) Member, Uncover Weapons Cache
Imphal: Manipur Police arrested a member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) on October 10, as part of ongoing security operations in the state. The suspect, identified as Mayanglambam Dhanbir (39), was taken into custody at his residence in Kyamgei Maning Leikai, Imphal East District. Dhanbir, who reportedly operated under several aliases including Dhanabir, Awangba, and Lanchenba, is accused of extorting money from local shops and residents in Imphal.
In a separate but related operation, security forces conducted raids in Manipur’s vulnerable hill and valley areas, discovering a significant cache of weapons and explosives. Among the items seized were a China-made grenade (CMG), a 9mm pistol with a magazine, 14 live rounds of ammunition, a .303 sniper rifle, an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing 1.35 kg, high-explosive hand grenades, and specialised anti-riot equipment. The weapons were found in the foothills between Aigejang village and Uyok in Bishnupur District.
The arrests and seizures are part of intensified security efforts aimed at restoring stability in Manipur, following increased militant activities in the region.
