Manipur Police Arrest KCP-PWG Member, Seize Cache of Arms and Ammunition
Imphal: Manipur Police have arrested an active member of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG), intensifying their crackdown on militant activities in the state.
The accused, identified as Ningthoukhongjam Sushil Meitei, alias Kangla or Ishingchaoba (50), was apprehended on March 18 from Langthabal Kunja Mamang Leikai, near Konsam Oil Pump, under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West District. Authorities recovered a mobile phone from his possession during the arrest.
Acting on intelligence inputs, security forces launched a search operation in Aripat, under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station in Thoubal District, leading to the discovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition.
The seized items included an SLR rifle with a magazine, an anti-riot gun, two Model-36 HE hand grenades, a detonator with an arming ring, an INSAS LMG magazine, multiple rounds of ammunition, riot control equipment, bulletproof jackets, protective headgear, camouflage clothing, and a Baofeng radio set.
As part of ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal and looted weapons, Manipur Police have intensified intelligence-driven combing and cordon-and-search operations across both hill and valley districts.
Security forces are conducting area domination patrols in vulnerable regions to ensure law and order, as well as the safe passage of essential goods along National Highways 37 and 2. On March 18, a total of 209 vehicles on NH-37 and 360 vehicles on NH-2 were escorted under tight security to prevent disruptions.
To further strengthen security, 109 checkpoints have been established across the state to monitor movement and curb illegal activities. Authorities confirmed that no violations or detentions were reported during these operations. Manipur Police remain committed to sustained raids and intelligence-led actions to recover all illicit arms and maintain stability in the region.
