Manipur Police Arrest Key KCP Members and Seize Arms Cache

Northeast Desk, 30th May: In a significant crackdown on insurgent activities, Manipur Police apprehended two active members of the proscribed outfit KCP (City Meitei) from Thoubal District on May 29. The arrested individuals, Lairenlakpam Thoiba (26) and Singam Kabikanta Meitei (32), were found in possession of two 9mm pistols with magazines, 15 live rounds, a four-wheeler vehicle, and two mobile handsets.

Continuing their operations, security forces uncovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition in fringe and vulnerable areas of the hill and valley districts. The recovered items included:

  • One SMG Carbine
  • One 9mm pistol
  • One DBBL (Double Barrel Breach Loading) gun
  • Six HE-36 hand grenades
  • Four tube launchers
  • Two SLR magazines
  • 58 live rounds
  • Four 12-bore cartridges
  • Two walkie-talkies with chargers
  • One tear smoke shell
  • One stun shell (anti-riot)

These items were recovered from Gwarok Ching, Thoubal District.

In another operation on May 27, security forces arrested Laishram Rabi Singh (33) in Kwakta Terakhongshangbi, Bishnupur District, for illegal possession of arms and ammunition. The seizure included one M-16 rifle, one 9mm pistol, and 10 live ammunition rounds.

Manipur security forces have ramped up search operations and area domination efforts in both hill and valley districts. Stringent security measures have been implemented at all vulnerable locations, with security convoys ensuring the safe movement of vehicles along sensitive stretches.

To aid in the transportation of essential goods, the movement of 38 vehicles along NH-2 has been facilitated. Additionally, 118 Nakas (checkpoints) have been established across various districts, leading to the detention of 37 individuals for various violations.

The heightened security presence aims to maintain peace and order while ensuring the safety and well-being of Manipur’s residents.
