Manipur Police Arrest Key Militants Amid Ongoing Security Operations

Imphal— In a significant crackdown on insurgent activities, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive War Group) [KCP (PWG)] from the Irum Mapal area in Kakching district on February 18.

The arrested individual, identified as Naorem Premkanta Singh, 43, was allegedly engaged in extortion targeting local civilians, police sources confirmed.

The arrest was part of a broader security operation that saw two additional detentions on the same day. In Imphal West District, security forces apprehended Romeo Laishram, 50, a suspected KCP sympathizer, and seized a 7.65mm pistol, ammunition, and other incriminating materials. Meanwhile, PREPAK (PRO) member Salam Sitoljit Singh, 36, was arrested from Uripok Khumanthem Leikai, with authorities recovering a mobile device from his possession.

Security forces continue to maintain high vigilance across Manipur’s hill and valley districts. As part of their efforts, authorities successfully escorted 427 vehicles transporting essential supplies along National Highways 2 and 37. Additionally, 114 checkpoints remain active across the state, ensuring strict monitoring. However, no detentions for checkpoint violations have been reported.
