Manipur Police Arrest KYKL Member and Recover Weapons in Multiple Operations

Northeast Desk, 27th July: Manipur Police have arrested Shrimayum Rishikesh Shamra, also known as Loijing, a 21-year-old active member of the banned outfit Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL). The arrest took place in Chingarel Tejpur, Imphal East, on July 26.

In a follow-up operation, police recovered a gun, a shell holder, and eleven shells from Thubi Chingkhong in Imphal East District.

During a separate search operation in Bijang village, Kangpokpi district, security forces recovered an improvised mortar, a 9mm pistol with a magazine, two single-barrel rifles, three HE-36 hand grenades, and three improvised mortar rounds.

In addition to these operations, authorities ensured the secure movement of 363 and 294 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2, respectively, carrying essential items.

To bolster security, 99 checkpoints were installed across different districts in Manipur, resulting in the detention of 73 persons for various violations.
