Manipur Police Arrest PLA Militant, Recover Arms and Ammunition in Separate Operation
Imphal: In a major breakthrough, Manipur Police arrested an active militant of the proscribed outfit People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on March 14. The arrested individual, Thokchom Diamond Meitei (26), was taken into custody from Langmeidong Mamang Leikai in Kakching district.
According to officials, Meitei was involved in extortion activities and had been threatening school staff in Langmeidong. During the arrest, authorities recovered a mobile phone and a wallet containing Rs 320 in cash from his possession. Further investigations are underway to determine his involvement in other unlawful activities linked to the PLA.
In a separate security operation, forces conducted an extensive search operation in the Dampi ridge area of Churachandpur district, leading to the recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition. The seized weapons included rifles with magazines, a single-barrel gun, locally-made rifles, an SMC carbine magazine, and a Baofeng radio set. Security personnel also recovered IEDs, anti-riot stun shells, jungle shoes, a helmet, and an ammunition pouch.
Authorities have intensified counter-insurgency operations across the state, focusing on dismantling militant networks and preventing illegal arms circulation. The latest arrests and seizures highlight ongoing efforts to ensure peace and stability in Manipur.
