Manipur Police Arrest Three Individuals in Anti-Crime Operations, Recover Narcotics

Imphal: Manipur Police arrested three individuals in two separate operations, underscoring their commitment to restoring peace and ensuring public safety in the state. The operations, conducted in Kakching and Churachandpur districts, targeted extortion activities and drug trafficking, resulting in significant recoveries.

In the first operation, security forces apprehended a member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) in the Wabagai area of Kakching district. The arrested individual, identified as Thounaojam Johnson Singh (42) of Wabagai Leirak Achouba, was reportedly involved in extortion activities in the region. Authorities believe his arrest is a step toward curbing the influence of the banned outfit in the district.

In a separate operation in Churachandpur district, police arrested two individuals with a large consignment of narcotics. The duo, identified as P. Thangkhanlam (45) and *Mangliankhup (32), were intercepted in a four-wheeler in Khuga, Matta village under Churachandpur Police Station. The raid resulted in the recovery of *60 soap cases containing approximately 776 grams of suspected brown sugar and 537 suspected WY tablets weighing 60 grams. The vehicle used for transportation was also seized.

In addition to these arrests, security personnel conducted search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable areas across Manipur’s hill and valley districts. The movement of 331 vehicles carrying essential goods along NH-2 was closely monitored, with strict security measures implemented to ensure their safe passage. Sensitive stretches of the highway were provided with security convoys to facilitate uninterrupted movement.

A total of 106 checkpoints were installed in various districts, maintaining vigilance and enhancing security. While no further detentions were reported, the police emphasized their ongoing efforts to safeguard public safety and disrupt illegal activities across the state.
