Manipur Police Arrest Two Key Recruiters of Banned KCP(PWG) Outfit in Guwahati

Imphal: In a major breakthrough against insurgent activities, Manipur Police have arrested two alleged recruiters linked to the proscribed Communist Party outfit KCP(PWG).

The operation, conducted in the Gorchuk area of Guwahati, Assam, on March 24, led to the capture of Meishnam Bungomacha Singh and Tekcham Ibomcha Singh. Both suspects were taken into custody in connection with an FIR registered at Andro Police Station in Imphal East District.

Authorities revealed that the arrested individuals were actively involved in recruiting youth into the ranks of KCP(PWG), a banned communist insurgent group operating in Manipur. Their arrest is seen as a significant blow to the organisation’s recruitment and expansion efforts across the region.

This operation follows a previous crackdown on March 15, during which four extortionists associated with the same outfit were apprehended in Andro. Notably, two of those arrested in that operation were reportedly recruited by the recently captured suspects, highlighting their central role in the outfit’s activities.

In a related development, Manipur Police intensified their anti-extortion efforts, leading to the arrest of two additional KCP(PWG) cadres on March 23. Sarangthem Dinesh (26) and Sanasam Malemnganbi Chanu (23) were apprehended during a targeted operation at Wangoi Laxmi Bazar in Imphal West District. The police also seized a two-wheeler and a mobile handset during the raid.

The series of successful operations reflects the authorities’ ongoing commitment to curbing insurgent activities and dismantling the recruitment networks of banned organisations in Manipur. Investigations are currently underway to trace further links and prevent future recruitment drives.
