Manipur Police, Assam Rifles Arrest Two UNLF-K Militants in Joint Operation
In a coordinated operation on February 22, Manipur Police and Assam Rifles apprehended two active militants from the proscribed group United National Liberation Front (UNLF-K). Acting on specific intelligence, security forces launched the operation and arrested the duo for allegedly extorting money from the public, shopkeepers, and transport operators.
The arrested militants have been identified as Wangkhem Rohit Singh and Thangjam Nongan Meetei, both 18 years old. During the operation, authorities also recovered two mobile phones from their possession, which are expected to aid in further investigation.
In a separate operation conducted on the same day, security forces dismantled two illegal bunkers located between L. Munlai and Haraothel village in the Leimakhong-PS area of Kangpokpi district. The move was part of ongoing efforts to eliminate armed strongholds and restore normalcy in the region.
Meanwhile, on February 21, Manipur Police arrested an individual from the General Post Office in Imphal West District for attempting to mail a parcel containing approximately 2.92 kg of suspected ganja/marijuana. The accused, identified as 27-year-old Akoijam Sachin Singh, was taken into custody, and further investigations are underway.
