Manipur Police Clamp Down on Street Mayhem, 19 Detained in Imphal East

Imphal: In a swift action aimed at restoring public order, Manipur Police today detained nineteen individuals in Imphal East district for their involvement in incidents of street violence. The individuals were reportedly creating chaos by blocking roads, harassing innocent commuters, and generally disturbing the peace, with many of them apparently under the influence of alcohol.

Their unruly behaviour caused considerable inconvenience to the public and severely disrupted the fragile normalcy in the area. Police officials emphasised that such disturbances posed a significant threat to public safety and were a clear breach of the law. The force made a strong appeal, particularly to the youth, to exercise restraint and responsibility, urging them to steer clear of participating in unlawful and anti-social activities. Authorities also issued a stern reminder that engaging in such acts could lead to serious legal repercussions, potentially jeopardising their careers and future prospects.

Taking to X, the Manipur Police reiterated their stance, stating, “Manipur Police urge all, especially the youth, to steer clear of such unlawful and anti-social activities. Engaging in such behaviour can lead to legal consequences that may adversely affect one’s future and career prospects.” The police further reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to upholding public safety and maintaining peace throughout the state, while also expressing their heartfelt gratitude for the public’s unwavering support.

In a separate development, security forces on June 9 successfully apprehended three active militants affiliated with various insurgent groups from the general area of Pantha, under Moreh Police Station in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district. The arrested individuals have been identified as Laisharm Rakeshwar Singh (21) of Torbung Waikhurok, Bishnupur district, believed to be associated with PREPAK (Pro); Sharangthem Koireng (25) of Kakmeiyai, Thoubal district, linked to KYKL; and Laikham Amujao Singh alias Salai (22) of Sekmai, Imphal West district, who has connections with KCP (Noyon).
