Manipur Police Counter Social Media Claims, Clarify Details on Jiribam District Incident
Imphal— Manipur Police issued an official statement on Tuesday addressing “baseless claims” circulating on social media regarding the events of November 11 in Jakuradhor, Borobekra, Jiribam district.
The statement refutes allegations made by certain organizations online and offers a detailed account of the incident.
According to the police, militants launched an organized assault around 2:30 pm on Borobekra Police Station’s IDP shelter and an adjacent CRPF post. The attackers, equipped with RPGs and automatic weapons, damaged several buildings in the area. The Civil Police and CRPF responded with a strong retaliatory effort, resulting in a heavy exchange of fire that lasted approximately 40-45 minutes and ultimately brought the situation under control.
During the operation, security forces recovered the bodies of 10 militants in military attire, along with an arsenal that included AK-47s, SLRs, INSAS rifles, and an RPG. Police also confirmed that two weapons recovered were reportedly looted from the police armory.
The statement emphasizes that these militants were not victims of an ambush but were killed in direct retaliatory action. Among the security forces, CRPF constable Sanjeev Kumar sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at Silchar Medical College in Assam. Two civilians from Modhupur, identified as Maibam Kesho Singh (75) and Laishram Barel (61), were also killed in the crossfire, and six IDPs remain missing.
Manipur Police confirmed that search operations in and around Jakuradhor are ongoing to eliminate remaining militant threats. The police statement aims to provide clarity amid widespread online misinformation, emphasizing the coordinated and defensive response taken by security forces during the attack.
