Imphal: Manipur Police have intensified their crackdown on illegal black films on vehicles, removing tinted films from over 400 cars in Imphal East district over the last five days. The police also seized dozens of rolls of black film from car accessory shops as part of their enforcement drive.
Taking to their official X handle, Manipur Police issued a public advisory warning against the use of black film on car windows. Authorities have urged car owners to remove the films voluntarily, while shop owners have been directed to surrender any remaining black film rolls to the nearest police station.
Failure to comply will result in strict legal action under the Supreme Court’s directive (CWP 265 of 2011) and Section 100(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police have reiterated that unauthorized dark films obstruct visibility and pose a security risk, leading to the ongoing enforcement action.
Meanwhile, in a separate security operation, Manipur Police recovered a large cache of weapons and explosives from a riverbank at Hiyanglam Natekhong Thongjin in Kakching district. The seized items included:
• 2 single-barrel guns
• 1 modified sniper rifle with a scope
• 1 country-made pistol (without a magazine)
• 5 hand grenades
• 4 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), weighing between 900g and 2kg
• 15 live rounds of .303 rifle ammunition
• 2 live rounds of INSAS rifle ammunition
• 2 live rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition
• Multiple empty bullet casings from .303 and AK rifles
• Anti-riot equipment
• Baofeng radio handsets and a drone remote controller (Made in China)
The discovery of explosives and firearms highlights the persistent security challenges in Manipur. Police continue to conduct search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable areas across both hill and valley districts to curb militant activities.
Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any suspicious activities, as efforts to maintain peace and security in the region remain a top priority.
