Manipur Police Crack Down on Insurgent Networks and Drug Trafficking in Statewide Operations

Imphal: Manipur Police, in a sweeping series of operations across multiple districts, have arrested several cadres affiliated with various insurgent groups and intercepted a large consignment of narcotics, dealing a significant blow to insurgency and drug trafficking networks in the state.

On June 13, police arrested a cadre of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) from Langmeidong Maning Leikai in Kakching District. A .32 pistol and mobile phone were seized from his possession. Authorities believe he was involved in extortion activities targeting schools in the Imphal area, part of a disturbing trend of insurgent exploitation of educational institutions.

In Thoubal District, another insurgent linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Noyon) was apprehended near Thoubal Melaground. Police recovered a two-wheeler, ₹9,000 in cash, and an Aadhaar card during the arrest. Security forces emphasized that these arrests are critical in dismantling local militant financing and logistical support structures.

Tengnoupal District witnessed the arrest of two more insurgents—one each from the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro) and PREPAK—near Shangtong. These operations are part of a coordinated strategy to neutralize militant threats along sensitive areas in Manipur’s hill regions.

In another breakthrough, Yumkhaibam Roben Singh, a cadre of KCP (PWG), was arrested at Langol Game village in Imphal West District. The seizure of a mobile phone and SIM card during the operation is expected to aid authorities in tracking insurgent communication networks and collaborators.

Meanwhile, on June 12, security forces intercepted a Tata truck at New Keithelmanbi Police Picket carrying a massive quantity of methamphetamine drugs concealed in its roof ceiling. The driver was taken into custody, and the seized contraband—valued at an estimated ₹22 crore in the international market—has underscored the region’s ongoing struggle with narco-trafficking, often linked to insurgent funding.

Parallel search operations in fringe and vulnerable zones of Churachandpur District led to the recovery of improvised mortars, country-made guns, ammunition, and bulletproof jackets. These findings reflect the scale and preparedness of underground groups, prompting law enforcement agencies to maintain a heightened state of alert.

Manipur Police stated that these operations reaffirm their commitment to dismantling insurgent strongholds, curbing illegal arms and drug trade, and ensuring peace and stability in the state’s conflict-sensitive areas.
